FAQ – External roller blind
Do I need to ask my landlord?
Since the installation of CLIP & SHADE external roller blinds does not involve any structural changes to the window or facade, there is no damage whatsoever, and it can be removed at any time, you can install our sun protection blind even without your landlord's permission. However, we recommend informing your landlord – often they are willing to cover part of the acquisition costs.
How do I install the exterior roller blind?
The individual components of CLIP & SHADE can be assembled without tools. The sun blind is then placed in the window frame and secured with our tested and proven clamping mechanism. More details can be found in our installation video and in our installation instructions.
Kann ein Außenrollo in Standardbreite auch auf ein maßgefertigtes Fenster passen?
Ja, das ist möglich. Unsere Standardbreiten beziehen sich immer auf das Außenmaß
des Rollos. Eine Standardgröße passt dann, wenn die lichte Breite Deines
Fensters kleiner ist als das Rollo und die Laibungsbreite mindestens 5 mm
größer ist als das Außenmaß des Rollos.
So kann auch bei einem maßgefertigten Fenster eine Standardgröße passend sein
Is the roller blind fall-proof?
When installed correctly according to our installation instructions, the external blind will last for a long time and securely! Make sure you select the correct clips and check them regularly for deformations.
How do I choose the appropriate width and height?
Width
Choose the width so that the exterior blind fits into the reveal (=window recess in the masonry outside). If the blind width is smaller than the clear width (width in the window with the sash open), a gap of light will appear. This is a purely aesthetic limitation, and the blind can still be easily mounted!
Height
Measure the clear height in your window (height in the window with the sash open) and select the appropriate range in the dropdown.

Which fabric offers better protection against heat?
Both fabrics offer the exact same heat protection effect! Both the translucent and the privacy fabric block over 90% of solar energy before it even reaches the window and are the ideal external heat protection for windows.
The translucent fabric has the added advantage that no artificial light is needed indoors when the external blind is closed. This not only saves electricity costs but also creates a pleasant atmosphere in the room.
Do I need to hire a professional to install the exterior roller shutter?
No, you can easily install our roller blind yourself!
Assembling the individual components and installing them in the window frame is child's play and done in no time. Our customers usually don't need a tradesperson, even with limited DIY skills. However, if you still get stuck, we are happy to assist you with tips.

Does the exterior blind darken my apartment?
That depends entirely on your needs: Both fabrics provide a noticeable cooling effect. The transparent fabric still lets in plenty of daylight and allows you to look outside. The opaque fabric is much more densely woven and reduces light incidence by about 80–90%, which noticeably darkens the room.
What to do if my roller blind retracts too slowly?
Increase the spring tension of the brake. You can find out how to do this here.
Why is an external roller blind more effective than internal sun protection?
Interior blinds primarily serve as privacy screens and to darken living spaces. However, since solar radiation is only blocked after it has passed through the windowpane, interior blinds are hardly suitable for heat protection. An interior blind with dark fabric even acts like an additional heater, as the fabric heats up considerably in the sun. Exterior blinds already reflect a large part of the solar radiation before it can even enter the apartment.
How effective is our exterior roller blind at protecting against heat?
Our external roller blind was specially developed as a heat protection and blocks about 90 to 95% of heat radiation, depending on the fabric type, before it enters the interior.
Is our exterior roller blind suitable for tenants?
Yes, our external roller blind was specially developed for tenants. It offers a simple, cost-effective, and damage-free way to retrofit external sun protection without altering windows or facades.
Will the installation cause damage to the window or the facade?
No. Our external roller blind is installed without drilling. A special rubber layer reliably protects window frames and facades from scratches or damage.
Does the external roller shutter affect the thermal insulation or airtightness of the window?
The exterior window seal can be easily compressed, but this does not affect the tightness or thermal insulation of the window.
Can the external roller blind be installed by one person?
Generally, one person can perform the installation. However, for large windows, it is advisable to have two people for the installation.
Up to what wind speeds can the external blind be used?
Our external Venetian blind has been extensively tested for wind, heat, and cold. In strong winds or during extended absence, the blind should be retracted for safety reasons.
Does the exterior blind need to be cleaned regularly?
There is no fixed cleaning interval. Dirt can be easily removed with a damp cloth. If the fabric is wet, it should dry in the extended state to avoid moisture in the cassette.
Does the outdoor blind also keep insects out?
The fabric is insect-repellent. However, individual insects may still enter the interior through small gaps at the sides.
Can the external blind be used all year round?
The external roller blind can be used all year round. However, it should not be operated in frosty conditions, as the retraction speed may change due to temperature.

How do I care for and clean a pleated blind?
Light dust can be easily removed with a duster or cloth. Dirt is best removed with a damp cloth.
What material is the pleated blind made of?
The cover is made of fabric. Depending on the chosen cover, it is either an acrylic or screen fabric. The rails are made of aluminum, so they are completely protected against rust and are durable.
Are pleated blinds also suitable for skylights?

What color are the pleated blind accessories?

Which type of curtain is suitable for the bedroom?
For the bedroom, fabrics with strong darkening properties are suitable. These keep the room dark even during the day.
How long does it take to deliver a custom-made pleated blind?
Since each pleated blind is custom-made, the delivery time is usually about two weeks. You can see the exact delivery time directly in the ordering process.
Can I return a custom-made pleated blind?
As this is a custom-made item, a regular cancellation is not possible. However, should something not fit or be faulty, we will of course find a solution.
Can I attach the pleated blind without drilling?
Yes. Our pleated blinds are designed so that you can install them without drilling. Clamp brackets and adhesive brackets are available for this purpose, which offer a firm hold without drilling into the window frame. Both the clamp and adhesive solutions can be removed without leaving any residue. Of course, you can also screw them in conventionally if you wish – just as you like.
Which type of mounting should I choose for my pleated blind?
For tenants, fastening without drilling is particularly suitable. Both clamp and adhesive mounting allow for very quick and residue-free reversible fastening. If you buy a pleated blind for your own home, screw mounting is also suitable for a long-term secure and stable fastening.
For fixed glazing, screw or adhesive mounting is also ideal, as clamp mounting is not possible here.

Absolutely! We manufacture blinds up to 2.4 m wide and also in door height (over 2 m) as a single element. For very wide window areas, you can also install two blinds next to each other – this covers the area seamlessly. Balcony doors can also be fitted.

What material is the blind made of?
The slats, as well as the top and, if applicable, bottom rails, are made of powder-coated aluminum. The tilt wand, as well as other components for operating the blind, are made of high-quality plastic.
What color are the other attachments next to the louver?
Headrail, bottom rail, cords and plastic parts are color-matched to the slats. However, minor color differences may occur, which do not affect the overall appearance.

Can I use the blind in the bathroom (damp rooms)?
Yes. Our Venetian blinds are made of moisture-resistant materials. The aluminum parts do not rust and are also suitable for bathrooms or kitchens. Unlike, for example, wooden Venetian blinds, which can be problematic in wet rooms, aluminum slats retain their shape and surface in humid environments. Just make sure to ventilate regularly to prevent condensation from building up – this protects both the material and the indoor climate. Overall, our Venetian blinds are very easy to clean and a popular solution for bathrooms as well.

Which shipping provider will deliver my products?
Due to the large product dimensions, the selection of shipping service providers is limited. We therefore ship with UPS and DPD.
How much are the shipping costs?
Shipping to Germany is free. Shipping to Austria costs €5.90. For shipments to Italy or France, shipping costs are €9.90, and to Switzerland approx. CHF 20.
As shipping costs vary from time to time, this information may not be up-to-date. Therefore, please check the shipping costs directly for your desired product. To do this, add it to your shopping cart and proceed to checkout.
How long does delivery take?
Standard products usually have a delivery time of 1–3 business days. For custom-made products, the delivery time may be a little longer. The exact delivery time will be displayed to you during the order process.
How can I track my delivery?
Once your order has been shipped, you will receive a shipping confirmation with a tracking number. You can use this to track your package online at any time.
Which countries do we ship to?
We currently ship to Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands.
Can I amend or cancel my order after it's been placed?
Whether a change or cancellation is possible depends on whether the product has already been manufactured. This is particularly crucial for custom-made products.
For standard products, changes or cancellations can usually be made until the order is shipped.

Can I return or cancel my order?
If the products are standard and not custom-made, you can withdraw from the contract within fourteen days without giving any reason.
The withdrawal period is fourteen days from the day on which you or a person designated by you (who is not the carrier) received the last goods.

What do I do if a product arrived damaged?
Please contact us by email at office@clipnshade.de and send us some pictures. We will then check whether we can send replacement parts or whether the complete product needs to be replaced.
How do I get a return label?
If it is not a custom-made product, please send us an email to office@clipnshade.de within the 14-day cancellation period. We will then send you a return label.
